Job Description for the Direct Support Worker

Direct Support Staff work with the Executive Director and Peer Support providers to fulfill the mission of The Connection Project. Direct Support Staff will be responsible for welcoming participants, maintaining a clean and safe environment, assisting Certified Peer Support Specialists with facilitating groups and classes, as well as completing opening/closing procedures.

We are currently seeking part-time, nights and weekends only.

General Responsibilities:

1)    Front Desk Management:

·         Greet and assist visitors in a courteous and professional manner.

·         Manage incoming calls, emails, and correspondence.

·         Direct inquiries to the appropriate staff members and departments.

·         Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area.

2)    Assist Certified Peer Support Specialists:

·         Meet with Participants as necessary to further their self-directed plans/goals

·         Perform clerical duties for CPSS as necessary

·         Co-facilitate Groups/Classes once trained

Key Holder Responsibilities:

1)    Opening and Closing:

·         Open the facility at the beginning of the day and ensure it is ready for participants and staff.

·         Secure and close the facility at the end of the day, ensuring all clients and staff have safely exited.

2)    Operational Oversight:

·         Conduct daily inspections of the facility to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained.

·         Manage inventory of supplies and report any shortages to the Executive Director.

Professional Qualifications:

1)    Education and Certification:

·         Identification as having personally lived experience dealing with mental health and/or substance use challenges with a minimum of 1-year clean time.

·         The ability and willingness to obtain certification as a Peer Support Specialist recognized in the state of Nebraska.

·         A minimum of a High School diploma is required. 2 year degree or higher (Preferred).

·         CPR and First Aid certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not already certified.

2)    Experience:

·         Previous experience in a similar role or in working with individuals with substance use challenges is highly desirable.

 

3)    Skills and Abilities:

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

·         Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.

·         Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

·         Strong written and oral communication skills

·         Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups

·         Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff

·         Strong public speaking ability

 

4)    Other Requirements:

·         Background check and drug screening.

·         Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
